Declaration in Support of a Ban on the Installation of Light
Emitting Diode (LED) type Billboards in the Lower Mainland
Whereas:
- Citizens for Responsible Outdoor Advertising understand that progress is inevitable in
our society. Change happens every day. But when change threatens our health and safety,
and destroys our natural and cultural heritage, it’s time to Take Action!
- Billboards need to distract our attention to be effective, and therefore threaten
the health and safety of Lower Mainland motorists and visiting tourists
- Citizens for Responsible Outdoor Advertising also believe that when we degrade
our surroundings, we also degrade our sense of who we are, where we came from
and the values we hold in common.
- Scenic beauty has been a powerful force in shaping our history, culture,
philosophical and spiritual traditions. We believe that the Lower Mainland’s
scenic heritage is fundamentally important to the continuation of our individual
and collective well-being, to our economic prosperity, to a healthy environment,
and to the quality of everyday life.
Therefore be it Resolved That:
Citizens for Responsible Outdoor Advertising
must do all it can to stop the installation of any and all LED type billboards
throughout the Lower Mainland, and actions may include the boycott of any products or services
so advertised.
